10 Powerful Takeaways: The Edmonton Oilers are looking to trade Andrew Mangiapane as his role has diminished and many of the other players have played and fit in better this season. He has been a healthy scratch as of late and seen more of a player in a fourth line role. There are plenty of other players on the team and in the system that can take up top-9 roles right now, especially with the return of the final injured forward in Kasperi Kapanen.

Elliotte Friedman said, “I’ve not confirmed it through the Oilers, but I’ve heard it that they are looking for a player who probably would be more accepting of the role than Mangiapane was going to start to have to play. Ryan Strome wouldn’t necessarily fit that.”

Strome is in a similar situation with the Anaheim Ducks, but instead of it not working out at the beginning of his tenure, the influx of talent that has come in over the last couple of seasons has pushed him down the lineup and out of it, especially considering his worse play.

Strome scored 10+ goals and exactly 41 points in all three of his previous seasons with the Ducks, but has two goals and six points through 23 games this season, and the team has played 44 games. The veteran is not going to hit that mark, and even though he was put back into the lineup on the second line and played over 16 minutes, it didn’t change much. The Ducks have been in a downward spiral and needed to do something, but without success, Strome is likely going to fall back down the lineup.

Strome has one goal and no assists in his last 12 games. The Ducks have won three of those games and he has barely played over 11 minutes. Mangiapane has a better record of scoring goals and is a cheaper contract, so the Ducks would more than likely like to make that switch, but Strome won’t see any more opportunity with the Oilers, who are at least very happy with their top-9 right now and are/were alternating through fourth line players like Adam Henrique, Trent Frederic, Mangiapane, Curtis Lazar, Max Jones, and Quinn Hutson.

There is interest out there for Mangiapane, but the ideal situation is to move the entirety of his contract out and not bring anything in right away.
