New Chapter Begins

New Chapter Begins: The St. Louis Blues and Alex Texier are headed for a divorce, as it’s been announced the team will be terminating the forward’s contract.

Texier was put on the trade block, but the Blues weren’t satisfied with any of the offers, waivers was next, nobody claimed him, so now GM Doug Armstrong and Texier’s agent have agreed to terminate the deal.

The 26-year-old winger was signed for $2.1 million AAV this season, and was a pending restricted free agent. He’ll now be able to sign wherever he pleases, and according to early reports, there’s going to be plenty of interest.

Texier was originally a second-round pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets back in 2017. He’s appeared in eight games for the Blues this season, yet to score a goal and has added one assist. St. Louis averaging 10:15 of ice-time per game, and Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman was the first to report trade talks were ongoing, and that this scenario could play itself out.

Texier’s best season came back in 2023-24 with the Blue Jackets, when he dressed in 78 games, scored 12 goals and finished with 30 points.

The Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Vancouver Canucks are all going through a slew of injury troubles and could make an offer.
