Powerful Ways: The Colorado Avalanche are off to one of the best starts in NHL history, and they are showing no signs of slowing down. While their roster may be stacked, there are gaps, and look for management to try and upgrade ahead of the trade deadline, as the Avs are all-in this season.
On a recent episode of Daily Faceoff Live, Jesse Montano of Guerilla Sports joined the program to discuss what could be coming from the Avs this season on the trade market:
How much do you just want to stick with this group that’s rolling? I really see two areas for this group right now that I say yeah, you probably want to add there before the deadline comes and goes. The big one your third-line center.
Jack Drury has performed there totally admirably. No real complaints, but I think having seen a team that went four rounds, won a Stanley Cup just a few years ago. Their third and fourth line did a lot of heavy lifting for them in some of those playoff games, so I think you’d want Jack Drury to slide back down to that fourth line, Colorado and you’d want an upgrade there at 3C. And then truthfully, I think you’d want a seventh D.
Ryan O’Reilly, a former Av, and current Nashville Predator tops the list of ideal candidates, and considering his history with the team, could be open to the trade. O’Reilly doesn’t have formal trade protection on his contract, but has been promised a heads up on a potential deal from GM Barry Trotz.
There’s also Alex Wennberg from the San Jose Sharks, who could be a name linked to the Avs this season, and you can’t count out Nazem Kadri in Calgary.Colorado Kadri is at the top of many trade boards, but at this point, ownership has not given Craig Conroy permission to deal their best player.
Keep an eye on the Avs. They are a stacked team, and will only be getting stronger ahead of the trade deadline.
