Powerful Reasons: He was signed to a professional tryout (PTO) ten days ago, and after just three games in the AHL, veteran Robby Fabbri made enough of an impression to land himself a standard, two-way contract from the St. Louis Blues.
The 29-year-old center registered a goal and an assist in three games with the Charlotte Checkers in the AHL. He’s landed a a one-year, two-way contract that will pay him league minimum $775,000 in the NHL, and $300,000 for time spent in the AHL.
He will join the Blues immediately for their game Thursday in Nashville against the Predators.
The Blues were forced to put Jordan Kyrou on injured reserve on Wednesday, which helped lead to the urgency of the Fabbri move.
Fabbri returns to the team that originally drafted him in the first round back in 2014 (21st overall). He played his first three NHL seasons in St. Louis, and registered 73 points in 164 games with them, as well as earning a Stanley Cup ring from the Blues’ run in 2019.
In 442 career NHL regular-season games, Fabbri has recorded 216 points on 106 goals and 110 assists. He’s also played for the Detroit Red Wings and the Anaheim Ducks.
As for Kyrou, it’s a tough loss for the Blues, but the team nevertheless feels it dodged a bullet. “We’re happy with the results of the MRI, Louis considering it could have been longer… We know it’s at least a week and we’re labeling it week to week right now because we don’t know how quickly it will heal.”
Kyrou was injured in a hit along the boards from Senators forward Stephen Halliday on Saturday. The early concerns of a serious knee injury were apparently avoided. Kyrou was off to a slow start this season with just eight goals and 16 points in 28 games.
