The St. Louis Blues are open for business and GM Doug Armstrong has reportedly made several of his veterans available. It’s gone from bad to worse in St. Louis, after their embarrassing blowout to the hands of the Chicago Blackhawks, a game where backup Joel Hofer went MIA and couldn’t come in to relief Jordan Binnington.
The Blues enter Thursday’s action with a 17-19-8 record, sit near the bottom of the Western Conference, and Armstrong is ready to re-tool his roster on the fly. Here’s the three Blues who are most likely to be dealt ahead of this season’s deadline:
Brayden Schenn
Schenn was involved in trade rumors last year and almost ended up a Toronto Maple Leaf, who apparently were offering Easton Cowan in the deal. This season has been a down year for Schenn, who is frankly overpaid at $6.5 million AAV. St. Louis Blues He’s signed through the 2027-28 season, and owns a 15-team no trade list. Schenn’s recorded just nine goals, and 18 points in 44 games this season, and is in need for a change of scenery. Teams to keep an eye on include the New Jersey Devils and Los Angeles Kings.
Justin Faulk
Faulk’s one of the better defenceman available on the trade market and like Schenn, would benefit for a change of scenery. The right-handed blueliner has recorded 21 points in 44 games, good for third on the Blues, and is signed for $6.5 million through next season. St. Louis Blues Faulk holds a 15-team no-trade clause, and at 33 years old, still has plenty in the tank. He’s been linked to the Carolina Hurricanes, Dallas Stars and Toronto Maple Leafs.
Jordan Binnington
Things just keep getting worse for Binnington this season, and he’s having the worst year of his career. Even though he was named to Team Canada’s Olympic team, many have doubted he’ll even play in their big games. Binnington’s signed for one more season at $6 million AAV, and his trade clause covers 14 teams. The Richmond Hill, St. Louis Blues ON native has posted a 3.55 GAA and .871 Sv.%, but based on his experience, will still be on the radar of playoff-bound teams looking for more goaltending depth. The Blues may have to retain some money though. Teams interested in goaltending depth include the Edmonton Oilers, Montreal Canadiens, Hurricanes, and Seattle Kraken.
