Timo Meier has taken a personal leave of absence from the New Jersey Devils as he tends to a family health matter. The timing of his return has not been announced.

The 29-year-old Swiss winger has 11 goals and 23 points in 30 games in this, his fourth season (third full year) with the Devils. He’s played an average of 18:56 per game, and ranks third on the team in scoring.
Timo Meier arrived in Jersey at the trade deadline in 2023 from the San Jose Sharks, in the midst of his first 40-goal campaign. He’s registered 28- and 26-goal seasons in New Jersey, with over 50 points in each of the past two years, and is on pace for 30 goals and 63 points this year.
His veteran presence, physical two-way play and consistent scoring will be missed for the Devils, who are just on the periphery of a playoff spot at the moment, sitting sixth in the Metropolitan Division. They are tied with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers for the two Wild Card spots with 35 points, but both of the Pennsylvania teams have games in hand.
Across his 10-year NHL career, in 651 regular-season games, Timo Meier has 228 goals and 230 assists for 458 points, along with 1,127 hits.
