Oilers Trade Rumors: It does seem that Andrew Mangiapane’s days as an Edmonton Oiler are numbered. We heard last week that they’re looking for the right opportunity for the 29-year-old veteran. And while one team is being held up by a number of multiple insiders as an ideal fit, we’ve got word now of a new playoff contender that has some interest.
Elliotte Friedman revealed on Hockey Night in Canada that the Anaheim Ducks are now looking at the Oilers forward who is in Year 1 of a two-year, $3.6 million deal.
For the second time in three games, the Edmonton Oilers made Andrew Mangiapane a healthy scratch. It’s going to be interesting to see where this goes here. I do think there’s interest in the player. I heard there were some teams maybe a little concerned about the second year. Although other people say they don’t think that’s going to be a big deal. He’s under contract for this year and next.
I heard Anaheim was one of the teams kind of poking around it. We’ll see where that goes.
Mangiapane has just one goal in his last 26 games, but has obviously shown the ability to be a reliable secondary scorer. He’s had anywhere from 14-to-18 goals in each of the previous six seasons, Oilers with a 35-goal one-off career year in the middle of that, back in 2021-22.
He provides help on both sides of the puck, though, as a tenacious, gritty, two-way player. Up until this disastrous season for him in Edmonton, he’s been on the positive side of plus/minus ratings throughout his career, at a +52 coming into this year.
The Ducks are looking for some veteran scoring help, though ideally in the top-six, or a winger with proven playoff production. Those aren’t really roles that Mangiapane is a fit for at this point, but in the absence of being able to find a true impact player, it could make sense for Anaheim to lower their expectations with a move like this. He is a solid veteran who could come in with the right attitude and provide mentorship for the Ducks’ young stars, with his strong work ethic and the energy he brings to every shift.
